What a joy this dog has been! We met Gabe in 2002 and I just fell in love with him and his “Macho Man” attitude, but never dreamed that he would one day be ours. In the Spring of 2004, Gabe, about 4 1/2 at the time, came to stay with us “temporarily” for a couple of months. Well, temporary became permanent when we decided we just couldn’t part with him or him with us. We can’t thank his breeders, Judie and Liza Dunkle of Pembroke Collies enough for this dog!

Gabe was finished by his breeders as a puppy with 4 majors in 2000 and continued to mature into a beautiful dog. On a whim, I decided to take him out as a veteran just to play. What a fun time we had! Over the next couple of years, we picked up both all-breed and specialty variety wins, a couple of BOS to BOB, and multiple group wins and placements. The ultimate highlight was winning an all-breed Best In Show under breeder judge, Marjorie Tuff, just weeks before Gabe turned 9! When showing dogs, you dream of winning that red, white, and blue rosette, but for me, I never thought it would come true. This win taught me to dream big as it may just come true!  We ended 2008 at #4 in Canine Chronicle’s All-Breed rankings and the #2 owner handled dog. What an experience!

In 2011, Gabe came back out of retirement to show in the 11+ veterans class at the Collie Club of America’s National Specialty. He won that class and we had a had a grand time showing in Variety. It was a very special time for us and I will never forget that last time in the ring with very special dog. Thank you to everyone that took the time to compliment my boy on how great he looked; it meant so much to me!

Gabe crossed to the Rainbow Bridge in August 2015. Not a day goes by that we don't miss him. Until we see you again, Gabey Baby.
